Today is Blog Action Day about poverty and this is the reason I want to share some figures from Red Solidaria:
Numbers
In the world: 852 million people are hungry (1 every 7 people)
In Latin America: 54 million (1 every 9)
In Argentina: 2,100,000 (1 every 20)
On the other hand, in Argentina 260,000 children under 5 years old, suffer from malnutrition
For every 153 Argentinean there is a undernourished.
Being so many, can they do anything for him/her?
What to do right now?
Where are they?
Generally, the hungry ones and particularly the child that is undernourished can be found around the large cities, in the slums of the large urban areas.
It is possible that their parents and grandparents immigrated, a long time ago, to the big city looking for a job or opportunities.
It is usual to find a special family, perhaps the father or the husband of the mother is not at home anymore for different reasons and their mother tries to be the head of the household where there are usually many more children and probably some more suffer from malnutrition and a few times they are admitted to a nearby medical center.
Of course, there is also malnutrition in very poor rural areas (distance contributes to the lack of means) and many times, the most unprotected turn to be the Indians and natives.
